4-3-14; 1st Grade: We did the KWL chart in MW/Prom. Board; they all knew or had seen one before; they really liked the video clips on the life-cycle of a frog. Especially the one with no talking; (One little girl said it made her sick to watch the slimy part; ha!) They did the coloring and glueing of the life-cycle of a frog at the tables;

1H-Did the KWL and many were doing the same book in GR or had been learning about frogs. They loved the game and I gave them one to take home and cut out.

4-10-14; Day 2; 1st Gr. I think I got my lessons a little mixed up; Last week we did life-cycle….This week; today we were supposed to do, "The Frog Wore Red Suspenders", don't have it in our library. I did Finklehopper Frog (fiction) instead. We talked about gestures and practiced them. I pulled some fiction and non-fiction books about frogs and had students working with a partner to find a fact or tell why their book was fiction or non-fiction.

We talked about what we had learned last week, read the tadpole book, and added to our L (learned) chart. We then created the lifecycle cutout. Kids really seemed to like it. We talked about the fiction/nonfiction from between our two books. (Frog Wore Red Suspenders and Life Cycle)

We had a fire drill so we didn't get to finish it as much as we wanted but they took it with them and they LOVED reading about the poison dart from. Only 6 didn't follow directions and cut around the big rectangle....will have to explain that one better with the next group!
