3rd Grade December Lessons

Practice Battle of the Books

Put students in groups of 3 or 4 (just for the day)
Have them write on a piece of paper everything they can remember about the book (if you have enough copies let them see the book).

Explain how to do the questions, ie they can answer as a group, but they have to answer in one min

First question goes to any team, the next questions go to each team in order (so each team has a chance to answer).  If a team doesn't answer correctly anyone can buzz in (ring in, etc). I don't have buzz in toys for everyone so be creative.

(Google timer for a timer)

I do not have a lot of questions, feel free to add some of your own if you wish.

We ended up having to finish a couple of the last chapters of Tornado. Then we had our battle. The kids seemed to really enjoy this.

Battle/Books: Explained to them the game we would be playing today and asked how many had read "Freckle Juice". Not many, so I asked questions about Charlottes Web instead. We are trying to keep the books circulating. Some kids are really lax about getting them read and returning them, which isn't good for the ones who are really excited and want to do this.
