Introduction: Review Dewey Categories (ie why are we walking through Dewey?)
Answer: So we can be introduced to new books and sections we might enjoy AND be able to find books quickly!
400's--Review the original Prezi (from above about the other sections of Dewey).
Introduce a few good books from the 400 sections. What other types of books would kids like to see? Do they seem interested in language books? Let me know! |
Play The Great Dewey Coin Caper (As a class).
If you need an incentive tell them that we will be doing a library game day for classes that have earned it in a month or so.

The 500's cover a lot of material and are often popular.

For the pieces of paper I would substitute the cards from one of the shelf order games.
Before students play remind them that just part of going to the library is learning the Dewey number. Few people have Dewey memorized. The biggest skill is using the # from the catalog and then finding where that number would go on the shelf.
