November William Allen White
Bookmarks here!
William Allen White was born February 10, 1868, so 2018 marks the 150th year of his birth. Here are a few websites you can use to further promote him through our state's libraries this year:
Red Rocks, his home. Open by appointment in the winter. Note videos on main page.

Kansas Museum of History has a lifesized wax sculpture of White and other famous Kansans in their main gallery: http://www.kshs.org/p/museum-exhibits/10668
...and one of his printing presses on site: http://www.kshs.org/kansapedia/white-s-printing-press/10149
The journalism school at KU was named for WAW in 1948. They recently revamped their page on him: http://journalism.ku.edu/william-allen-white
The William Allen White Library and Archives will be sponsoring exhibits on White throughout 2018, beginning later this month. Their Twitterfeed is also featuring quotes from White: Leave Your Legacy (@esulyl) | Twitter
In honor of the 150th birthday of William Allen White, the WAW Foundation at KU is bringing out a new documentary on the man that will be offered to television. It was written and directed to KU film professor (and co-writer of Spike Lee's new film) Kevin Willmott. A 16 minute educational version of the film is now available for viewing online. Anyone attending the 2018 Summer Institute for School Librarians has already seen it. Feel free to adapt it to your uses with students; it will work well with high schoolers since it gets into the political atmosphere surrounding White, but you may want to only show part of it to younger audiences so they don't get too restless. I, of course, hope some of you can use it to promote the Wm. Allen White Awards master lists.
