4-3-14; 2nd Grade LES: They did enjoy this lesson and were pretty focused for the most part. They liked the mine craft map and talking about it.

3M-3rd grade did pretty good with this. Some people got farther on their map than others but overall better than I expected on some of their maps!

3P, 2H, We added a compass rose to our map but took to long doing dewey review (many don't get it I think, especially 2nd) so we didn't have much time for doing maps. Both classes will need to finish adding non-fiction info. to shelves.

3M-We added a compass rose, many felt confused by having their paper "upside" down. We talked about how N. was always on the top of a map so the north side of the library needs to be on the top. We labeled the S. side or the nonfiction shelves.

4-10-14; 2nd Grade; Dewey Decimal;
We reviewed Dewey Decimal in the P.Pt. sent out earlier in the year; (Promethean Planet wouldn'tt load). Then talked about their maps and what they needed to have on them and how to label their shelves for non-fiction and fiction.

I really liked the genre prom. planet. It had some great examples and was engaging. It did take up a lot of class time (kids wanted to share some stories) so we aren't as far as I would like with the maps.
Both 3rd and 2nd need to finish adding labels to NON and Fiction areas.
Great resources though!

Yesterday we worked on our maps for non-fiction. They did ok (2nd) but some are having a hard time understanding it is a view from above so we don't need all the little details such as shelves and books, just the big stuff.

3rd-today worked on labeling the fiction/finished up non-fiction. Overall, their maps are looking pretty good~ I am impressed with many of them and disappointed with others....3rd graders should be able to count how many shelves are on each side.

3rd/2nd- Did ok. 2nd grade needs more time to label shelves. They didn't know many of the reference materials so I think it was a great slideshow. I just need to know how to make my own now Ha Ha

5-1-14; Mapping/Reference and Legend: Went through the flip-chart of different material/books in Reference. Students got a little "wiggly" so I handed the books to them such as Guinness and Almanac and had them tell me what kind of information was found in those books. They didn't get all done coloring or labeling their maps; could do another partial class finishing them up.
