Angel-Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus
2/11/2014 05:25:26 am

2-11-14 KP- Did great with the story. Thankfully I had an aide and it was still chaotic pulling tables to use the shelf markers. Think I will have their 2nd page on the table instead of raising hand. Several who had a hard time working independently at their seat.

2-12-14; Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog; The kids really loved the story; I stopped and asked them what "question" they thought the duckling was going to ask the pigeon. Interesting answers. I copied a page from the book where the question was asked, and had them color at their tables. We also counted the hot dogs on the very last page and made a list of things on the white-board they would liked/eat on a hot dog. They were shown a selection of Caldecott books and talked about what the award was for. We talked about check-out, but I forgot the "hokey-pokey" song; sorry.

2-12-14-KF- We talked about the Caldecott award (after we reviewed expected behaviors in the library!) I had them help me answer the pigeon in the book. When finished I had them do the pigeon response page where they draw a picture of themselves answering the pigeon about driving the bus. Then, when finished with that, they did the step by step pigeon drawing page (where it breaks it into parallel lines so they can do head, neck, body, etc.) I called tables over to show me how to use the shelf markers. It went ok...still kind of hard leaving K to work independent but we did it. Thankful my 5th grade buddies have helped them some already!

2-18-14; Pre-K; Knuffle Bunny; The first class was pretty excited about their stuffed animal they brought; I asked them questions as we read the story to keep their interest.
The second class was able to sit better; (The para thought the puzzle pieces would be too small for them to cut; so didn't hand them out).

2-18-14 KP-To prepare I cut the puzzle sheet into 3 pieces so they would be smaller tasks. Overall that was a great idea though several either didn't finish or a few had a hard time staying at it for 13 pieces. I made a enlarged copy of the answer sheet for them so they could see what it would look like when they take it home and put it together. Kids were losing pieces on the way out the door so I am going to fold the copied answer sheet to make a little pocket for tomorrow's class. Hopefully that will help them keep a hold of them better.

2-19-14 KF-They did great with the story, very engaged. I think this puzzle was a little much for this age. Several did well but some didin't have the patience for 13 pieces. I fold the answer sheet into a pocket so they could keep their pieces safe and not lose them. For PK I drew a knuffle bunny head and separate body w/legs/arms (that I am cutting out). They will cut out the head and glue it onto a brown paper bag to make a puppet. They can color him when finished gluing.

2-19-14;Kindergarten; Knuffle Bunny;
Both classes enjoyed the story; In the first class, most of them brought a stuffed animal; the 2nd class only 1 student remembered. I gave them the puzzle to color at their table, then to take home; too many pieces for this age group i felt. The 2nd class we played pin the tale on the Knuffle Bunny. They liked that; We did get a few pictures for the first class.

KP-We did The Pigeon Wants a Puppy and made the finger puppets. Went really well. They like the pigeon books and they did great cutting out the finger puppets! Felt relaxed while the students were working.

2-25-14; Pre-K; They liked this story and both classes sat pretty good; I have been asking them several questions as we read about "what might happen next?" just to get them thinking.

2-26-14; Elephant and Piggy; Kindergarten;
We read the story and I asked them questions along the way. They colored their pictures, but they wanted to keep them instead of putting them into a book. (I liked the idea of the book:)

3-4-2014; Pre-K; Book-fair video;
Wasn't sure how long they would sit; skipped parts of it, but they did pretty well. Both classes especially liked the Lego Books.
We talked about the Scholastic flier, what a Book-Fair was, and put the words "Book-Fair" on the whiteboard.
