Monster Themes

Book List

Kindergarten Focus
**Leonardo the Terrible Monster (and Sam the Scaredy Cat Kid) both by Mo Willems
Activity:  Copy the page of the book where Sam and Leonardo are holding hands.  Students can color in the setting by picking where Sam and Leonardo might go.

**Where the Wild Things Are (do kids still know this one?  I'm really curious to see if this is new for K) FYI--Bookflix has this one as an interesting fiction/nonfiction pairing.  I think this name crown craft could be easy or hard depend on how much time you spend on it.  http://simpleplayideas.com/name-crown-craftsimpleplayideas.com/name-crown-craft

**He came with the couch (on Tumblebooks) . Design your own couch creature activity pages

A more Fall approach
**Bookflix has Fletcher and the Falling Leaves plus a nonfiction pairing.  I think the video is a good introduction to this quieter tale.
Lots of good songs/fall activities here preschool.uen.org/curriculum/october_s/fall.pdf
or fall coloring pages https://www.crayola.com/free-coloring-pages/print/fall-leaves-coloring-page/

We don't have a lot of manipulatives for Monsters--do we?  This might be a possible activity, but it would need some prep time.  http://www.toddlerapproved.com/2015/09/monster-hands-alphabet-match.htmlwww.toddlerapproved.com/2015/09/monster-hands-alphabet-match.html
